Unsubscribes and opt-outs

What happens when a contact unsubscribes, and how Trevy makes sure they don't hear from it again.

Updated October 20, 2026

Every email Trevy sends goes out through Follow Up Boss (FUB), and FUB adds your account's own unsubscribe footer. Trevy doesn't add a footer of its own.

When a contact unsubscribes

FUB won't email an address that unsubscribed through its footer, or through an email marketing tool connected to FUB.

Trevy checks too. Before every email it sends, whether a follow-up email, a market report, a timely email or a test report, Trevy asks FUB whether that contact has unsubscribed. If they have, Trevy sends nothing and adds their email address to its do-not-contact list.

So Trevy finds out about an unsubscribe the next time it goes to email that contact. From then on, the list covers them everywhere.

What the do-not-contact list does

Once an address is on the list:

  • It gets no follow-up emails. The contact is taken out of their flow and can't be added to another.
  • It gets no market reports and no timely emails.
  • Trevy sends no hot-lead alerts about that contact, since someone who asked not to be contacted isn't someone to call.
  • The contact no longer counts toward your price.

The list works by email address. Trevy has no setting to take an address off it.

If Trevy can't check the list at a given moment, it holds the email and tries again later rather than risk sending it.

Older Trevy emails

Before Trevy sent through FUB, its emails carried Trevy's own unsubscribe link. Those links still work and add the address to the same list. The link opens a page with an Unsubscribe me button, so an email security scanner that opens every link can't unsubscribe someone by accident.

Replies that say "stop"

Trevy doesn't read what contacts write back, so a reply that says "stop" isn't recorded as an unsubscribe.

Any reply still matters. When a contact replies by email or text, Trevy pauses their follow-up emails as soon as FUB tells it about the reply, and their agent takes it from there. See When a contact replies.

To make sure a contact gets nothing more from Trevy, either:

  • ask them to use the unsubscribe link in the footer of any Trevy email, or
  • add a tag to them in FUB, then add that tag to Tags under Contacts → Leave out. See Choosing who Trevy emails.
