Choosing who Trevy emails

How to pick the Follow Up Boss stages and tags Trevy works on the Contacts page, what to leave out, and what else keeps a contact from hearing from Trevy.

Updated October 20, 2026

Trevy only emails the contacts your team picks, by their stage and tags in Follow Up Boss (FUB). The same picks decide who gets market reports, follow-up emails and timely emails, and how many contacts your price counts.

During setup

The Here's what we found screen lists your FUB stages under Who gets a report, each with how many contacts with an email address are in it. Trevy ticks up to 3 of your largest stages to start, leaving out stages with fewer than 5 such contacts. It ranks stages by size only, never by name. Tick or untick any of them. Under Narrow by tag (optional) you can pick tags too; the list shows your 40 most-used tags.

The Contacts page

After setup, who Trevy works is on the Contacts page: "Who Trevy works. Trevy writes only to these contacts, and your price follows how many there are." The team lead can change it, and so can agents on the team who are an Owner or Admin in FUB.

Changes to your picks and to the Leave out list save as soon as you make them, and Trevy counts again.

Who Trevy works

Pick Stages, Tags, or both. Each stage and tag in the list shows how many contacts have it.

Above the lists, Trevy shows how many contacts your picks add up to: "Trevy works" the number "of your" contacts with an email address. The team lead also sees the plan and price that number comes to, monthly and billed yearly. Picking more moves your plan up at the next daily count; picking fewer moves it down at your next renewal. See Plans and pricing.

If nothing is picked, the card says "No stages or tags selected, so no one will receive a report." If your picks match nobody, it says "That selection matches no one right now. Nothing will send until it does."

Leave out

"Trevy never writes to these contacts, even inside your picks." Add any of:

  • Stages
  • Tags
  • Agents' contacts: everyone assigned to that agent in FUB
  • Sources: the FUB lead source

A contact on this list gets no follow-up emails, market reports, timely emails or check-ins, and doesn't count toward your price. Take something off the list and Trevy works those contacts again, if they're in your picks.

Default market

"The market Trevy reports on for a contact whose own area it can't tell, written city-state-ZIP", for example atlanta-ga-30327. Type it and press Save.

How the picks combine

  • A contact must be in one of your picked stages. With no stage picked, any stage is fine.
  • They must carry at least one of your picked tags. With no tag picked, any tags are fine.
  • A contact on your Leave out list is always left out.

So Nurture under Stages and Buyer under Tags means Nurture contacts tagged Buyer. Tags on their own work too. Capital letters don't matter in your picks.

If you pick no stage and no tag, Trevy emails no one. Leaving something out doesn't count as a pick.

Who counts toward your price

A contact counts when they have an email address, are still in FUB (not deleted and not in the Trash stage), haven't unsubscribed, aren't on your Leave out list, aren't an agent, lender or vendor, and match your picks. People on your own team in FUB don't count. Each person counts once by email address, however many FUB records they have. Picking fewer contacts, or leaving more out, lowers the count. See Plans and pricing.

New contacts

A new contact's stage and tags can arrive after FUB creates them, for example when an action plan tags them. If a new contact joins a flow but isn't in your picks yet, Trevy holds their emails and looks again once a day for up to 7 days. If they still aren't picked, they leave the flow. If you pick them later, they can join a flow again.
