Sending through Follow Up Boss

How Trevy's emails go out from each contact's agent through Follow Up Boss, and how to set that up.

Updated October 20, 2026

Every Trevy email goes out through your Follow Up Boss (FUB) account, from the contact's assigned agent, with that agent's own signature and your account's unsubscribe footer. You don't connect Gmail or Outlook to Trevy, but each agent needs their email connected in FUB, since that's where FUB sends from.

Follow-up emails, market reports and timely emails all need this set up. Until it is, nothing goes to your contacts.

Setting it up

Only the team lead's Trevy account can do this. Go to Emails → Send through Follow Up Boss, the first card on the page. An agent on the team who can open the Emails page sees whether the team sends through Follow Up Boss, and that the team lead sets it up.

  1. Click Check setup. Trevy adds its custom fields and a "Trevy Send" email template to FUB.
  2. In FUB, create an automation named "Trevy Send": trigger Manually applied, then one action, Send email from the lead's assigned agent, sent immediately, using the "Trevy Send" template. Turn it on.
  3. Click Check setup again, then switch on sending.

The switch only turns on once the check passes. Anything still wrong shows as a list on the card. The automation must have no other steps, and "run once per contact" must be off.

If FUB won't let Trevy add its fields, the card says "Reconnect Trevy as the account owner so it can add its custom fields." Connect again from Settings → General → Connections using the FUB account owner's login. See Connect Follow Up Boss.

What Trevy adds to FUB

  • Text custom fields named "Trevy Subject", "Trevy Message", and "Trevy Message 2" through "Trevy Message 30". A FUB text field holds 255 characters, so each email is split across them. They're hidden on a contact when empty, and Trevy empties them once FUB has sent the email.
  • The "Trevy Send" email template, which joins those fields back into one email.

Once a day Trevy checks its fields and adds back any that are missing. Don't rename or delete the fields or the template.

How each email goes out

Trevy writes the subject and message into the contact's Trevy fields, checks FUB saved them exactly, then starts "Trevy Send" for that contact. A contact gets one Trevy email at a time: the next waits until FUB has dealt with the last.

Trevy checks your automation again each time it sends. If it's been turned off or changed, emails wait and the card lists what to fix.

Switching sending off also switches off Follow-up emails on the same page. Switching sending back on doesn't switch them on again: do that yourself.

How Trevy confirms a send

FUB can finish its automation without sending the email. It sends at most 4 automated emails to one person a day, and it can't send for an agent without a connected mailbox. So Trevy marks an email as sent only when FUB's own records show it went out.

When FUB skips an email, a follow-up email gets one more try a day later, and a market report waits for that contact's next monthly date. A timely email isn't tried again. When FUB doesn't send a follow-up or timely email, its email credit goes back, unless Trevy can't tell whether it went out.

Whose name is on it

FUB sends from the contact's assigned agent, so a contact with no assigned agent gets no email. Follow-up emails sign off with that agent's first name from FUB. If the assigned user's name contains "Extra Seat", "Unassigned", "Test" or "Default", the sign-off uses your name from Settings → General → Profile instead (What should Trevy call you?, or Full Name if that's empty).

Daily limits

Because FUB sends from agents' own mailboxes, Trevy sends at most 400 follow-up emails and 250 market reports per account in any 24 hours.
